Rick Dovey is the CEO of a large municipal industry on the south Jersey coast. Fifteen years ago, the power bills for his company escalated. With steady winds on their site, Rick was an early investor in wind power, and soon added a solar carport and other clean energy technology. His site is a 100% renewable energy-powered wastewater treatment plant.

It inspired a group of local fishermen to invest in offshore wind themselves. Fishermen’s Energy had “116 of 117 boxes checked” to become America’s first offshore wind farm. While they won a $50 million federal grant to build the small wind farm, they were ultimately stopped by state officials, even while European companies won approvals to develop offshore wind farms.
